LOS ANGELES (AP) — Lakers guard Kobe Bryant is in the midst of his 20th NBA season, and he says it will be his last.
The 37-year-old Bryant says he will retire after the season, making the announcement in a post on The Players’ Tribune on Sunday.
He says his heart and mind can handle another season, but his body knows it’s time to say goodbye.
Bryant ranks third on the NBA’s career scoring list with more than 32,000 points.
He’s won two Olympic gold medals, earned five NBA titles and been named an All-Star 17 times.
But this season has been a struggle. He is averaging just 15.7 points on a career-worst 32 percent shooting in 12 games, numbers that have contributed to the Lakers’ 2-13 start.
