NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — People doing their holiday shopping in New Bedford can park for free for up to two hours at several locations, Mayor Jon Mitchell announced Monday.

Two-hour free parking is available at metered spaces downtown and on Acushnet Avenue. The Elm Street and Zeiterion Garages are also offering two hours of free parking.

According to Mayor Mitchell, the city will also forgive parking tickets for shoppers who stay past the two-hour limit. To have a parking ticket dismissed, shoppers must send it, along with a copy of a sales receipt for $10 or more from a Downtown or North End business to the city’s Traffic Commission Office.

New Bedford’s Holiday Parking Program runs through Jan 1.
