PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – The Southeastern Regional Planning and Economic Development District (SRPEDD) has released its list of the most dangerous intersections for accidents in Massachusetts.
Ranked number one was Plymouth Avenue and Rodman Street in Fall River, followed by Route 44 and Orchard Street in Raynham. Third was Kempton Street and Brownell Avenue in New Bedford.
“It’s kind of interesting that a lot of the intersections that we’ve seen through the years are resurfacing to the top again,” said Lisa Estrela-Pedro, SRPEDD Director of Highway Planning.
The study is released every three years and the agency has been studying intersections for more than 20 years.
Estrela-Pedro said their studies are requested by the community and often, it takes time to see changes. Plymouth Avenue and Rodman Street in Fall River have been on the list for 12 years.
“The intersection was studied in 2007 and construction was just completed in 2015,” she added. “It takes a long time for a project from when it gets studied to be completed.”
She said the top 100 list is a reminder for drivers to remain cautious.
“We’re hoping that, you know, when you have a high pedestrian or a high bicycle crash location, that motorists are aware,” said Estrela-Pedro.
