‘Toys For Tots’ making the holidays special for underprivileged children

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — With the Christmas holiday right around the corner, now is a great time to donate a toy to a child in need.

WPRI 12, FOX Providence and The Rhode Show are proud sponsors of the Marine Toys For Tots campaign.

From now until December 22, you can bring a new, unwrapped toy to our Eyewitness News studios on Catamore Boulevard in East Providence during normal business hours.

For every toy donated to Eyewitness News, Hasbro will donate a toy as well!

Toys can also be donated at any Cardi’s Furniture or mattress store during showroom hours. Toys can be dropped off up until Christmas Eve.

You can also make a monetary donation online. Click here for more information.

Marine giving back

Sgt. Michael Guzik of the U.S. Marines told Eyewitness News that he is organizing this year’s drive in Rhode Island – after being a child recipient himself.

“They came through and they made a huge difference for us that Christmas,” Sgt. Guzik said. “I really feel that I owe the people of the state of Rhode Island everything I can give to make it a successful year.”

He said that with the help of sponsors, the drive this year is in full swing and his division has already collected 80,000 toys.

This Christmas, they will be distributing 100,000 toys to about 40,000 children living in Rhode Island.
