Police: 2 pedestrians hit on Hartford Avenue in Johnston

JOHNSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — Authorities are investigating after two people were struck by a car in Johnston Monday night.

It happened in the area of 1500 Hartford Avenue just before 10 p.m.

Police at the scene tell Eyewitness News crews that two people, a man and a woman, were struck. They were taken to Rhode Island Hospital and their conditions were unknown at last check.

According to police, the driver was taken to the police department for questioning. Officials said he is a young man, possibly late teens or early 20s.

Officers at the scene said alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, though rainy conditions and poor visibility may have contributed.

No other information was immediately available.
