Local youth football teams, cheer squads recognized at State House

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Seven Rhode Island Pop Warner football teams and cheer squads were honored for their success Tuesday at the State House.

Colonel Steven O’Doneels of the RI State Police recognized the success of the Warwick PAL Patriots Junior Midget Cheer, Edgewood Eagles Junior Peewee Cheer, Midget Cheer Level 4, and Jr. Midget Division I Football.

The West Elwood Intruders Midget Cheer Level 2 and Midget Division 2 Football, and Mt. Hope Cowboys Peewee Division 2 Football were also recognized.

The groups all competed at the National Championships in Disney World in Florida.

Certificates of achievement were presented to all team members.

“This is part of the Rhode Island State Police community outreach initiative recognizing young students-athletes, who are the future of this state,” Colonel O’Donnell said.
