CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (WPRI) — Police across Rhode Island will be out in full force this weekend in anticipation for the New Year’s holiday.
Central Falls police sent out a statement Tuesday, urging partygoers to be safe over the holiday weekend.
According to the National Highway Administration, the number of DUI-related deaths usually spikes around New Year’s Eve.
Data shows that on average, an injury resulting from a drunk driving crash happens every two minutes – and a person is killed every 51 minutes.
Central Falls police said officers will be on patrol looking for impaired drivers.
In a statement to Eyewitness News, Central Falls police said:
Our agency will be out looking for drivers who may have gotten behind the wheel after celebrating a little too much; as such, holiday revelers need to make sure they have a safe way home.
If you are above .08, you will be headed to jail because you are putting your life in danger as well as all the motorists you pass on the roadway.
