(WPRI) — The jackpot is cranking up on the Powerball lottery game, fast.
Monday, lottery officials said the jackpot had hit an estimated $400 million; then Tuesday, they said it had hit $450 million, about a $50 million increase in about 24 hours.
The cash option as of Tuesday stood at an estimated $275.4 million, officials at the Massachusetts Lottery said.
The $450 million Powerball jackpot is the highest since February 11, 2015, when someone won $564.1 million. That’s shy of the game’s highest-ever jackpot, $590.5 million, which was won on May 18, 2013.
The jackpot was last hit on November 4, 2015, and has been growing for 17 consecutive drawings without a top prize winner.
Powerball tickets are sold for $2 in 44 states, including Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut.
The next drawing is Wednesday night, Jan. 6, and the drawing will be broadcast on Eyewitness News at 11:00 on WPRI 12.
