EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – This week on the first half of Newsmakers: Lt. Gov. Dan McKee. All indications are that the general assembly will be examining Rhode Island charter schools and how they are funded. McKee – who has been a strong supporter of charter schools and mayoral academies – discusses why he thinks they are an important part of public schooling and what changes could be made by lawmakers. He also weighs in on the Providence firefighter schedule battle and proposed changes to residential tax evaluations.
On the second half: freelance journalist Philip Eil. Working with the Rhode Island ACLU, Eil has filed a federal lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Justice for their refusal to release evidence that was used in a high-profile drug case.
