Local wedding venue’s unexpected closure leaves brides looking for help

DARTMOUTH, Mass. (WPRI) — A local country club that hosts weddings and other events has unexpectedly closed its doors for good.

Hawthorne Country Club in Dartmouth shut down right before the beginning of the new year, causing panic for brides and grooms who planned to get married there.

Eyewitness News reached out to other local venues in the area, including Rachel’s Lakefront, about the closure.

According to the venue, they had four brides reach out to them in a panic because they received a letter from Hawthorne saying they were closing and refunding their deposits.

Rachel’s said it was able to book the weddings at its venue instead.

Scott Connery, of ‘I Do Just Weddings’ in Providence, is also offering to help.

“It’s panic mode right now,” he said. “Obviously, because it’s last minute details and every bride wants to glow in their planning process but now you don’t have a venue.”

Connery said he promised to find them new venues if they reached out to him.

“Call us right now we have a large resource of venues that we can help them relocate to, to find a great venue for their wedding reception,” he added.

Eyewitness News tried to get in contact with the owner of the Hawthorne Country Club by phone, but the lines were disconnected.
