Machete-holding suspect held on high bail

CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (WPRI) — A Central Falls man was arrested Saturday morning and ordered held on $25,000 bail after police said he was wielding a machete in a fight with another man.

Police were called to a Cowden Street address after someone reported the fight. George Mojica, 36, had the machete in hand, whom the officers confronted. He eventually dropped the weapon and was taken into custody.

Police have charged Mojica with assault with intent to commit a felony, possession of a knife during the commission of a crime, and disorderly conduct.

He was arraigned and held as a Superior Court violator. He’s now due back in court March 22. Bail was also set for him in the amount of $25,000 with surety on the new charges.

There was no word on any injury to the other man in the fight.

According to the Rhode Island Judiciary’s website, Mojica has more than thirty criminal cases that have been disposed against him dating back to 1998, including felony assault.
