Money-saving apps for everyday items

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Your smart phone can do it all, and if you’re using the right apps, it may even save you some money.

Here are some money-saving apps you may want to check out.

Mint

This app that tracks expenses for you.

“It gives you various alerts to see if you’re overspending in a month. You kind of designate how much you want to spend each month and it alerts you if you’re going over,” said WTNH’s Vanessa Wojtusiak.

Shop Savvy

For this app, you scan the barcode of an item and it shows you where you can find the best deal. We put it to the test by scanning an item many people have in their kitchen, K-cups! We scanned it and found 42 different places online selling the item and five different local stores, with 4 different prices. Right now Walmart has the lowest price for $9.98.
