Jones named Little East Rookie of the Week

Providence, R.I.-Rhode Island College freshman center Jason Jones (Roxbury, MA) was named the Little East Conference Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week for his performance in a 1-1 week for the Anchormen.

Jones averaged 11.0 ppg and 10.0 rpg, while recording a .688 shooting percentage (11-for-16) on the week. He scored 16 points (on 8-for-12 shooting) and corralled 10 rebounds in a 77-72 loss to UMass Dartmouth on Jan. 20. Jones contributed six points and 10 boards in a 71-48 victory over Plymouth State on Jan. 23.

For the season, he has played in 16 games, starting 13 of them. Jones is averaging 6.3 ppg and 6.8 rpg.

Head Coach Michael Byrnes’ team is currently 3-14 overall and 2-5 in the Little East Conference.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East Conference action at Western Connecticut on Wednesday, Jan. 27 (7:30 p.m.).
