NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — Two New Bedford men are charged with breaking into an Adams Street home after police said they were found with burglar tools.

A neighbor had called 911 shortly after midnight Monday morning to report two males trying to break into the vacant home. When officers arrived on scene, they saw two men walking from the area, and one of them was carrying a backpack with a crowbar sticking out of it and a flashlight.

Officers then found a lockbox, broken, that had been torn from the home. Plywood had been broken off the doorway but the inner door had not been entered.

Luis Riveira-Rodriguez, 25, was the man with the backpack. Police said he lives at another Adams Street home. He and Edgardo Badillo, 33, are charged with breaking-and-entering in the night-time, possession of burglarious tools, and larceny, police said. They were arrested and then arraigned later in the day Monday at New Bedford District Court.
