Providence man gets 20 years for break-in

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A Providence man was sentenced Wednesday to 30 years in prison — 20 years to serve and the remainder suspended on probation — for breaking into an apartment in April 2014.

Douglas Huntley, 25, was found guilty back in October by a jury at Providence Superior Court on charges of breaking and entering, possession of a firearm without a license, possession of a firearm after having been previously convicted in a violent crime, and possession of a controlled substance.

Prosecutors said Huntley broke into the first floor residence of a house on Bergen Street in Providence, and residents upstairs called police.

Officers went to the apartment; once inside, they found Huntley hiding under a table in the kitchen holding a Colt .45 pistol.
