WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — Authorities are looking for the person who pointed a laser at a plane bound for T.F. Green Airport.

The incident happened after a plane departed from Newark Airport in New Jersey Monday.

The United Express Flight 4404 flight crew reported a green laser being shined in the cockpit around 11:30 p.m. while the plane was flying over Long Island. Police did a sweep of the area where they believe the beam came from, but couldn’t find anything.

The FAA and New York State Police are still investigating.

Target 12 reviewed the number of similar incidents at T.F. Green and found they’re on the rise. There were 14 laser-related reports in 2015, up from just five the year before.

In 2014, there were almost 3,900 cases of someone beaming a laser at an aircraft across the country.
