CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) — Thirteen men have been arrested in Cranston in a prostitution sting that targeted “Johns” who responded to ads for an escort.

Police Chief Michael Winquist said on Thursday that his department worked with federal agents and Providence police in the sting last week.

Undercover detectives posed as prostitutes on the website Backpage.com, then set up a sting operation at a site in Cranston.

According to Winquist, 13 men solicited the women for sex and were then arrested and charged. Winquist said they are attacking the demand side of prostitution.
