Clerk swings golf club at would-be robber

METHUEN, Mass. (WPRI) — A store clerk armed with a golf club fought off a would-be robber Wednesday afternoon.

Methuen police said the suspect walked into the Stop Quick convenience store shortly after 4 p.m., and threatened the clerk with a knife.

Surveillance footage released by Methuen police shows the suspect grabbing the cash register as the clerk ducks out of frame. The clerk then reappears, swinging a golf club at the suspect. Police said the clerk had locked the front door, preventing the suspect from leaving.

The video shows the suspect smashing the glass door with the register. He then dives through the broken glass, leaving the register behind. Police said the suspect also dropped his knife.
