WEST WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — Authorities say they were able to quickly track down the man suspected of robbing a local liquor store.

Officers were called to Cowesett Wine & Spirits shortly before 9:30 p.m.. on February 2. The owner of the business told police a man had come into the store armed with a gun, and demanded cash from the register.

The officers were able to identify the suspect as 21-year-old John Cameron. Police searched the area with the help of a Warwick Police K-9 unit, and it was not long before Cameron was found sitting in a car parked at a business on Cowesett Avenue. He was arrested, and police tell Eyewitness News they recovered a replica handgun.

“This is just another example of the fine police work that our officers partake in on a daily basis,” Col. Richard Silva said. “To locate and apprehend this robbery suspect so quickly and with no one being harmed, is a credit to them.”

Cameron is charged with first degree robbery. He was also wanted on three bench warrants from Superior Court. He was arraigned, and ordered held without bail.
