Police looking for New Bedford wallet thief

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — Police in New Bedford are looking for a woman accused of stealing a wallet from a local grocery store.

According to police, a woman left her wallet at the register while checking out during a shopping trip at Market Basket on Sawyer Street on Sunday. The incident happened around 11 a.m.

She told police she immediately returned to the store after checking out because she noticed she had forgotten it, but when she got back to the register the wallet was gone.

The woman said the wallet contained cash, identification cards and personal information.

Police said video surveillance captured another woman picking up the wallet and leaving the store.
