PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — With extremely cold wind chills moving in Saturday, officials are reminding Rhode Islanders to take the warnings seriously and bundle up.

It’s February in southern New England – which means people are in the midst of winter’s icy grasp.

“Oh this is beautiful weather,” one person said.

“I think this is very bad and I can’t wait for spring,” another said.

Emergency warming centers were opened across the region for those who lose heat – and some organizations are closing down due to the cold.

Several local churches have cancelled services for Sunday morning, giving folks another reason to stay inside and stay warm.

If you’re planning to head outside this weekend, make sure to bundle up, cover your face and neck, and wear gloves and a hat.

Things were quiet at the Alex & Ani Skating Center in Providence Saturday – because the facility was closed due to the weather.
