NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — A New Bedford man faced a judge Wednesday after police said they found a pair of dogs in “deplorable” conditions during a drug raid at his home.
Investigators took Ramon Sanchez into custody Monday and seized marijuana and cash from his North Front Street apartment.
Sanchez was arraigned Wednesday on drug and animal cruelty charges and held on $500 bail.
New Bedford Police Det. Capt. Steven Vicente said the cruelty charge is “more neglect that cruelty.” He said the dogs are doing fine, but could not confirm where they’re being looked after.
Sanchez is due back in court in May.
