Wind advisory continues, strong gusts return late afternoon

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Strong to severe thunderstorms have now ended in our area, but wind damage such as downed trees and power outages could impact the morning drive Thursday.

Power outage numbers have shot up. As of 8:50 a.m., 6,193 National Grid customers had lost power, mostly in Providence County; the outages are centered in and around Pawtucket. Power Outage Updates | Power Outage Safety Guide

There’s also the potential for minor coastal flooding during high tide, between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m.

A Wind Advisory is in effect for Bristol, Newport and Western Kent counties in Rhode Island.
