Iconic Warwick dome to be taken down

WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) – The iconic dome on Airport Road in Warwick is set to be taken down soon.

The dome was built in the early 1960’s and has been empty since 2008.

Warwick State Representative Joe Shekarchi told Eyewitness News the landmark could come down as soon as this spring.

Shekarchi says the plan is to build a new Enterprise Rent-A-Car facility on the property, located across from where private planes land at T.F. green airport.

“We’re going to replace it with a fueling station, a new construction building and a state-of-the-art parking field where Enterprise will consolidate a lot of their operations,” said Shekarchi, who added development is a step toward returning unused airport land to the tax rolls.
