T.F. Green Airport garage to reopen after fire

WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI/AP) — A parking garage T.F. Green Airport that was closed after a car fire broke out earlier this week will be reopened.

According to a news release by the Rhode Island Airport Corporation, Garage C is scheduled to reopen later in the day Friday.

In a statement, Peter Frazier, interim president and CEO of the corporation, said:

“The Rhode Island Airport Corporation (RIAC) retained the engineering firm of Parsons Brinckerhoff to conduct a structural inspection of Garage C relative to the recent car fire. We were advised yesterday that the garage can be reopened to full operating capacity.

Our intention is to open the garage later today. This opening is contingent upon appropriate cleanup being completed.”

The Providence Journal reported that Frazier initially hoped to reopen Garage C by Thursday, but airport management decided to have the garage fully inspected first.

No one was hurt in the fire, which broke out around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday. Four cars were totaled and 16 more were damaged.

The fire remains under investigation.
