Police: 1 killed in head-on crash in Norton

NORTON, Mass. (WPRI) — Members of the Massachusetts State Police are investigating after one person was killed in a head-on crash in Norton.

According to State Police, troopers responded to reports of a crash on I-495 southbound before Exit 10 around 6 p.m. Saturday.

Upon arrival, troopers discovered a 2015 Toyota Tacoma had hit a 2015 Toyota Yaris head-on.

Police said a preliminary investigation revealed the Tacoma was traveling in the northbound lane when it left the roadway, crossed the median and hit the Yaris.

According to State Police, the driver of the Yaris was killed and the passenger was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Tacoma, a 41-year-old man from Mashpee, Mass., was also transported to Rhode Island Hospital. His injuries are considered to be non-life threatening.

Police said the right and center travel lanes of 495 southbound are currently closed for reconstruction.

The crash is under investigation.
