Two killed, 7 injured after SUV slams into popular Mass. restaurant

NEWTON, Mass. (WPRI) — Two people were killed after an SUV slammed into a crowded restaurant in Massachusetts Tuesday night.

Officials said the vehicle never stopped as it careened down the street and barreled into Sweet Tomatoes restaurant.

Seven people including the driver were injured, three of them seriously.

Customers who eat at the establishment regularly said they are in shock that this happened at a place they know so well.

‘”We have a lot to learn in the hours to come. reconstruction of the sight. and an understanding of what happened,” said Newton Mayor Setti Warren.

At this time, there isn’t a lot of information available regarding the two people killed in the accident. However, it has been confirmed that neither of them were employees at the restaurant.

West Newton is located about 45 miles north of Providence.
