PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Rhode Island Congressman David Cicilline will be joining President Barack Obama on his historic trip to Cuba.
Cicilline along with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and 15 other House Democrats will be traveling to the country next week, March 21 and 22.
It will mark the first time a sitting president has set foot in Cuba in more than eighty years.
The president will be working to build on the progress on relations between the U.S. and Cuba on his visit.
He will hold a bilateral meeting with Cuban President Raul Castro, and will engage with members of civil society in expressing the country’s support for human rights.
