Marijuana arrest reveals gun near RIC

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – Narcotics Detectives successfully worked undercover at Rhode Island College over the weekend to address complaints of narcotics activities in the area.

At 11 p.m. Friday night, 21 year-old Darshaun Vargas was arrested after police discovered a gun and marijuana in his possession.

Detectives were able to observe a parked car near Rhode Island College with 5 male occupants for more than 15 minutes and had strong reason to believe the males were passing around a marijuana blunt and drinking from a Grey Goose bottle, according to to an incident report.

A pat-down was conducted, Darshuan Vargas, the operator of the car, and he responded yes when the officer asked if he had a weapon in the car.

According to the report, detectives were able to confiscate a black CZ 75 B 9mm Lugar firearm with 10 rounds from a backpack in Vargas’s car.

Vargas was arrested and has stated that the firearm was his and that he was smoking marijuana.
