Providence police: $1,000 robbed from 92 year-old man

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – Providence police say a 92-year-old man was robbed outside of a Citizens Bank on Academy Ave. Friday afternoon.

According to police, two suspects grabbed the arms of the elderly man in the parking lot just outside the bank, and took an envelope containing $1,000 in 20 dollar bills out of his pocket before running off.

The victim was not hurt but unable to describe the suspects.

A witness described to police two suspects that were dark-skinned, thin-built, approximately 20s or 30s, and about 6 feet tall.

The witness also described the vehicle used to escape as a silver Honda Accord, which was operated by a white female waiting for the men and then drove west down Roanoke Street.

Police say that bank employees have fit the suspect description to a man in line just before the incident.

Bank security surveillance has not confirmed the identity of the suspects and no arrests have been made, police said.

Information was given to the Robbery Squad Detectives for further investigation.
