Police: knife-wielding suspect stole cash drawer

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — A man armed with a knife robbed a gas station on Acushnet Avenue Thursday night and ran off with the register’s cash drawer, according to New Bedford police.

The suspect was wearing sunglasses and a black ski mask when he robbed Hi-Low Gas around 10 p.m. Thursday. Police said he dropped the knife as he fled. The clerk was not injured in the robbery.

Police said several eyewitnesses followed the suspect to Vitoria Street, where officers found the empty cash drawer on the sidewalk.

Police said they arrested the suspect on Church Street about three hours later. Officers identified him as 26-year-old Mark Omer Desrosiers. According to police, officers found the sunglasses and ski mask used in the robbery at the home of one of Desrosier’s relatives.

Desrosiers was scheduled to be arraigned on a robbery charge Friday morning.
