NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — The Clarence L. Hussey Memorial Bridge in Wickford has now closed for the near future, as it undergoes structural repairs.
The bridge carries more than 13,000 vehicles a day on Route 1A over Wickford Cove.
RIDOT plans to reopen the bridge on June 25, to minimize impact to the community and tourism during the busy summer months.
A second closure period will begin in early September with the goal of finishing the project by mid-November.
The Clarence L. Hussey Bridge dates back to 1925, and is part of the Wickford National Register Historic District.
RIDOT says they will work to maintain as much of the bridge’s original components as possible.
