Man dies in Providence Police custody

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – Rhode Island State Police, Providence Police and the Rhode Island Attorney General’s office are investigating after a man died while in the custody of Providence Police.

52-year-old Steven Mondon was taken into custody Monday morning on a charge of delivering illegal prescription drugs.

Mondon was being escorted to the cell block when he collapsed.

Firefighters tried reviving him, but he was pronounced dead at Rhode Island Hospital.

Officials are now trying to determine the cause of death.
