NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — Two men arrested in January in connection with a New Bedford killing have now been indicted on murder charges, the office of Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn III announced Wednesday.
Aaron Bookman and Angel Acevedo have been in custody since their arrest on obstruction of justice and accessory to murder charges, respectively.
On Wednesday, a Bristol County Grand Jury handed up an indictment charging both men with the murder of Aaron Gant Jr.
Gant, 24, was shot near the intersection of Grinnell and Pleasant Streets on New Year’s Eve. He later died at St. Luke’s Hospital.
Three other suspects were also arrested in January on obstruction of justice charges. Despite five arrests in the case, no one had been charged with Gant’s murder until this week.
Bookman, 23, and Acevedo, 24, both of New Bedford, are now facing charges of murder, carrying an illegal firearm, and assault and battery by means of a firearm.
Arraignment dates for the two men have not yet been set.
