New Bedford man arrested, $10K worth of drugs seized

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — Members of the Organized Crime and Intelligence Bureau successfully executed two search warrants and took the one suspect into custody during a drug investigation in New Bedford Wednesday.

James J. Oliver, 45, of Acushnet Avenue, was arrested without incident outside of his house, according to police.

Sixty-five grams of heroin, 301 Oxycodone tablets, 60 methadone pills, a small bag of cocaine, packing materials, and $27,758 in cash were also seized from two apartments in Oliver’s house and the adjacent garage.

Police say that the drugs have a street value of $10,000.

Oliver was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in New Bedford district court on drug trafficking charges and possession with intent to distribute within 100 feet of a playground.
