NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — A man broke into a woman’s home Thursday morning and stole bags of tools that belonged to her, New Bedford police said, after he was charged with two similar crimes back in January.

The woman saw the man leaving her garage with the bags of tools shortly before 8:30 a.m., and started yelling for help. Neighbors called 911 for her, and chased the suspect for several blocks before police apprehended him near Durfee and Richmond Streets.

David Vincent, 54, of no permanent address, is now charged with breaking and entering. Police said it’s the third time this year they’ve arrested him for breaking and entering; on January 9, police said he broke into the basement of a home on County Street and stole a portable gas grill. Then, he was also accused of breaking into a garage on Bedford Street on January 28 and stealing a chainsaw.

Vincent was set to be arraigned Thursday at New Bedford District Court on the breaking-and-entering charge stemming from that morning’s incident.
