PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A local couple had more than one reason to celebrate following Monday’s Boston Marathon.
Bronson Venable, of Exeter, finished the race number 122nd overall.
Before finishing the race, he stopped at the 26-mile marker and dropped to one knee to pop the question to his girlfriend. She, of course, said yes.
“I dropped down on one knee and I was surprised I was able to get down on one knee as well as I did after the 26 miles,” Venable said with a laugh.
Venable is no stranger to running – he was the RI cross country champ while attending Bishop Hendricken.
“I had a spiel that I was going to say but it went out of my head as soon as I went down on one knee and I asked her if she would marry me.
And obviously, she said yes!
[I] was a little shaky when I was putting the ring on and I don’t remember kissing her and after the race I was like, ‘Did I even kiss her? I don’t even remember!'”
Venable did kiss her, and the rest is history.
He then went on the cross the finish line – coming in at in two hours, 39 minutes and 19 seconds.
Congratulations on your engagement!
