NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — North Providence town councilwoman Kristen Catanzaro is running for mayor.

Catanzaro, 47, who owns and operates Catanzaro Food Products, announced Monday night she will challenge current Mayor Charles Lombardi this year.

“During my tenure as Councilwoman and having served as Town Council President for two terms, I have encountered numerous situations where I have strongly questioned the practices of the current administration,” Catanzaro said. “And numerous times I have been insulted, to say the least, for going against the ‘norm’ and going against the administration. Well starting today, good government, the elimination of ‘old school politics’, listening to our residents, stabilizing our taxes and restoring pride in our town becomes the ‘norm’.”

Catanzaro was first elected to the town council in 2010.

The official start of the Catanzaro for Mayor 2016 Campaign began Monday night with a kick-off event and gathering of family and friends.
