FALL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) — Drivers in Fall River should expect detours and delays starting in May as crews begin construction work.
On May 2, MassDOT will close Central Street between Davol Street/Route 79 and Pond Street, as well as the Exit 5 ramp of I-195 to Route 79/138.
The city said Tuesday it’s planning to reconstruct Central Street to its final configuration. The process is expected to take about two weeks.
MassDOT assured that signs will be in place to advise motorists of the detours.
For local access, drivers should use the Water Street connector from Route 79/138 to Ponta Delgada Boulevard and turn right for Water Street/Central Street.
As for Exit 5, the ramp will be closed through September, according to the city.
Drivers are suggested to continue to Exit 6 for Pleasant Street and continue to Pleasant Street, Ninth Street, Bedford Street, Central Street and onto South Davol Street for Route 79/138 North or turn left for Route 79/138 South.
Those not seeking attractions in the construction zones are asked to travel using alternative routes, and drivers still using these roads should expect delays.
More specific information about detours can be found at the Massachusetts Department of Transportation website.
