Q&A: Increased violence in Afghanistan

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — At least 64 people are dead and more than 300 are wounded following an explosion in Kabul. Officials say militants targeted a security team and most of the victims are civilians, including women and children.

In the above video, Eyewitness News Analyst Lt. Gen. Reginald Centracchio joins us in studio to discuss the increase in violence in Afghanistan.

The general discussed how the security forces will be over-matched in the summer fighting season. He says the president’s plan to drop troops from 10,000 to 5,000 before he leaves office will have to be revisited.

Centracchio also talked about the addition of 200+ troops and $415 million in aid to Iraq.
