CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (WPRI) — The girlfriend of James “Whitey” Bulger is back behind bars in Rhode Island, Eyewitness News has learned.
According to a federal court filing, Catherine Greig is currently in custody at the Wyatt Detention Center in Central Falls. She’s scheduled to be sentenced on April 28 in Boston on a charge of criminal contempt.
Greig pleaded guilty in February to disobeying a judge’s order to answer questions about third parties who allegedly helped Bulger hide from law enforcement.
Her twin sister, Margaret McCusker, has asked the judge to be lenient. She says Greig has no prior criminal record, has “not a violent bone in her body” and has already received an “unprecedented” sentence.
Greig is currently serving an eight-year sentence from 2012 for conspiracy to harbor a fugitive, identity fraud, and conspiracy to commit identity fraud.
She and Bulger were captured in California in 2011, after spending 16 years on the run. Bulger is serving life in prison.
