Police: BAT Mobile to patrol in Narragansett this weekend

NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (WPRI) — The Narragansett Police Department, in partnership with members of the Providence Police Department and RI Department of Transportation, will deploy the Blood Alcohol Testing Mobile Unit (BAT Mobile) in the town this weekend in an effort to crack down on drunk driving.

According to Narragansett police, the BAT Mobile will be present in the town on Friday, Saturday and Sunday as officers will be conducting extra patrols to reduce impaired driving.

The BAT Mobile is a portable breathalyzer specialty vehicle staffed by officers certified to administer breath tests to suspected drunk drivers.

The unit allows officers to fingerprint and photograph suspects – and also contains two holding cells and room to complete an arraignment with a Justice of the Peace.
