Police: Suspect armed with machete robs Coventry bank

COVENTRY, R.I. (WPRI) — Members of the Coventry Police Department were called to a local Bank RI branch Monday for a reported armed robbery.

According to police, officers responded to the bank, located at 3 Coventry Shoppers Park, around 4:30 p.m. Witnesses said the suspect entered the bank armed with a large machete and demanded money from the teller.

Police said the suspect left the bank on foot with an undetermined amount of money.

The suspect was wearing a red Russell Athletic jacket with a black hood and black pants with white stripes on the sides.

Members of the Coventry, West Greenwich and West Warwick police departments responded to the scene. K-9 units from both Warwick and RI State Police also searched the area.
