PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Rhode Island officials joined the RI Public Transit Authority Friday to launch a “pink out” event to raise awareness about breast cancer.
The spring event kicked off Friday in Kennedy Plaza, marking the third year RIPTA has joined forces with the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Foundation.
The foundation’s pink “Hope Bus” was open for women who had questions.
“We want to make sure we bring attention because some easy screening or perhaps some simple questions that can be answered can make all the difference literally between life and death for some folks,” said Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza.
The Gemma Foundation’s Hope Bus travels to communities around the state providing information about breast health.
