Products containing sunflower seeds recalled due to Listeria risk

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Two manufacturers have voluntarily recalled sunflower seeds after learning of a possible Listeria contamination, the Rhode Island Department of Health announced Friday.

The recalled products were distributed nationwide by TreeHouse Foods and Creative Snacks Co. They can be identified by the UPC codes, product descriptions, and best-by dates.

The health department said it’s working with area retailers to make sure products containing the seeds are pulled from shelves.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and potentially fatal infections in young children, elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems.

Anyone with questions can call TreeHouse Foods at 1-800-756-5781 or Creative Snacks Co. at 336-668-4151.
