Relay for Life this Saturday in Middletown

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — Lace up your sneakers and join the fight against cancer this weekend in Middletown.

The Aquidneck Island Relay for Life will be held from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday at Gaudet Middle School. Participants will walk around the track to honor those who have been affected by cancer and to raise money for the American Cancer Society.

Along with the relay, the event will feature music, raffles, games, and other family-friendly activities.

According to the event coordinator, more than 250 people have already registered for the walk.

The weather looks like it will cooperate for the most part. The Pinpoint Weather Team expects it will be partly sunny and warm with the chance of showers after 8 p.m.

Relay for Life has teamed up with the YMCA, who will be holding a few exercise classes throughout the day and the U.S. Marines will be on hand to do cadence and an obstacle course for kids and adults.

Many themed laps will be held throughout the day for various causes.

At 8:15 p.m., luminarias will be lit and line the track for a reflective lap in silence.
