FOXBORO, Mass (WPRI) – A meteor foiled a burglary attempt and lead police to an arrest recently.

According to police, Foxboro Police officers were called to Route One early Tuesday morning for a report of a strange light in the sky.

It turned out to be a meteor that could be seen from several states along the northern East Coast.

While on Route One, officers spotted a man running into the woods, they chased him down and later learned he was trying to steal tires off cars.

The suspect, Steven DeGeorge, 52, of Millis, was arrested and charged with larceny over $250, malicious damage to vehicles, possession of a burglarious instrument and exhibiting another person’s license.

Police tell Eyewitness News that officers were aware of the report of an attempted tire theft in Walpole, and that’s why they were in the area. But police are not sure if DeGeorge is the one responsible for the theft in Walpole. As of now, Walpole police have not charged him.
