RI man sentenced for Fall River murder

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) — More than two years after a deadly shooting st an apartment complex in Fall River, the convicted gunman has learned his fate.

William Tate, 36, of East Providence will spend at least 19 years in prison. A judge sentenced him Wednesday in the January 2014 death of 24-year-old David Rodriguez at the Ship’s Cove Apartments. The Bristol County District Attorney says Tate will be eligible for parole in 2035.

Tate claims he thought Rodriguez was armed with a gun, and shot him in self defense.
