GLOCESTER, R.I. (WPRI) – A serious car crash claimed the life of a man from Uxbridge Saturday morning in Glocester.
According to Glocester police, the crash happened at about 1:45 a.m. in the area of 664 Reynolds Road. Officers found a vehicle that had gone off the road, down an embankment, and ended up against several trees.
Both occupants were trapped inside and firefighters used the Jaws of Life to free them; the driver, 29 year-old Christopher Johnson of Uxbridge, was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, 23 year-old Kati Michalik of Glocester, was taken to Rhode Island Hospital by medical helicopter. She was last reported to be in fair condition.
According to investigators, the car was going north on Reynolds Road and going around a curve when it ran off the shoulder, hit the guardrail, went down the embankment and struck a utility pole and a tree. Police said that speed may have been a factor in the crash.
