Police: Homicide investigation underway in West Greenwich

WEST GREENWICH, R.I. (WPRI) — Members of the Rhode Island State Police are investigating a homicide in West Greenwich.

According to state police, officials arrived at the home, which is located on John Potter Road, around 4:30 p.m. Saturday. The investigation is taking place near the University of Rhode Island’s Alton Jones Campus.

Maj. Joe Philbin confirmed to Eyewitness News there is one victim and one suspect has been taken into custody.

Eyewitness News crews were there as the medical examiner’s vehicle left the scene.

Rosemary Carley, who lives nearby, said a couple lives in the home. She said she is shocked something like this would happen in her neighborhood.

“Of course to me, it’s a bit of a shock, because again, this is a very residential, very quiet, very nice neighborhood that things like this do not occur,” she said. “This is a dead end road, so there’s only one way out and one way in. And there were state police, there were local West Greenwich police, there were also the volunteer firemen as well.”

A joint investigation is currently underway by both state police and West Greenwich police.
